Utah Business Magazine - The Magazine for Decision Makers
February 17th, 2006Brock Blake, CEO of FundingUniverse.com (a Provo Labs portfolio company) just made it on the list of Utah's Top 40 Under 40. At age 25, he was the youngest person on the list. So he can stay on this list for the next 14 years! Way to go, Brock.
Brock is already being quoted in the Wall Street Journal online about how to raise money from angel investors, so maybe he's gunning to make a national top 40 list soon.
His company recently got some great coverage with a Connect magazine article about Simpligent, the highest rated company that presented at the November 2005 speedpitching vent held in Provo.
Rix Ryskamp, Simpligent CEO said this: "We have been contacted by quite a few investors since the speed-pitching luncheon," says Ryskamp. "This has been the most productive funding event that I have ever seen. The amount of exposure we received in a single day was amazing."

I totally agree. My partners, Jeff Jordan and Trent Miskin, (and the rest of the FundingUniverse.com team) are the reason for any success that FundingUniverse.com has had. They are highly skilled and work incredibly hard.
The great thing about FundingUniverse.com is that we are a team. We work well together, support each other in our responsibilities, and have fun. I'm grateful to be a part of it. :)
Oh yeah...and Judd, your podcasts have really put us on the map! ;)

Congratulations to Brock! Too bad usually only the CEO gets the credit when people like Trent Miskin are just as much (or dare I say more so) the reason for the success. Kudos to Trent as well! (I know both Trent and Brock, so name withheld for obvious reasons.)

"His company recently got some great coverage"
Paul I thought that you were a part of this company, am I wrong? Or is this another one of those subtle plugs for another one of your portfolio companies?

I mentioned in the first sentence that FundingUniverse.com is a Provo Labs company, so I obviously wasn't trying to be subtle. Next time I'll use ALL CAPS and not put it in parentheses. ;-)

I noticed things really started going Brock's way after fundinguniverse.com started podcasting. Coincidence? You decide.

Kudos to fundinguniverse.com and to Brock! On top of being a new celebrity, Brock is a genuinely good guy. He deserves this (as do those people on whose shoulders he has stood). Go Brock!

When Paul Allen approached Trent Miskin and I about bringing Brock in as CEO of FundingUniverse.com last October, both of us were thrilled to have him aboard fully aware that, as CEO, he would naturally get the lion's share of the credit for what FundingUniverse.com accomplishes. Since he has taken the reigns, Brock has been the consumate team player. He does the little things that earn our respect every day -- asks the interns and part-timers for input, inviting his staff to attend his big "CEO things" with him. There isn't an elitist bone in his body. He would be (as seen above) the first one to give credit to his team. That's why all of us at FundingUniverse.com, along with everyone that knows him, are thrilled to see him honored at one of Utah's Top 40 Under 40. (And, no, he didn't make me write this. :) )
