Unpublishing
February 28th, 2006For the first time ever I just deleted a blog post. I got up at 4 am, flew to Oakland, drove to Santa Rosa, spent the day with the YackPack team, and then drove back to the airport, where my flight was delayed for 2 hours (wind problems), and so, while waiting for my flight, I posted something about Alan Kay's lecture last week and how people today aren't taught to think and then I went off on something about how smart our ancestors were. I was pretty hammered after a long day and not in a great mood, so my post didn't make a whole lot of sense.
Then I got an email on my blackberry with a comment from a good friend who challenged my argument, and I got to thinking about it, and I decided my post was really quite a thoughtless one, not backed up by any research or scholarship at all, so I decided to retract it. I don't think I've ever done that before. But I'll put some more thought into this subject and post something later that is more substantial.
I guess this is kind of like repenting for a blogger.

I read that via the GoBigBlog network feed and got to say I enjoyed it. Whether right or wrong it got me thinking and that is always good ;-)

I didn't get to read it. Oh well. I heard a quote once that said something like "Error of opinion is tolerated so long as reason is left free to combat it." Also, "If only the perfect birds sang there would be little music in the forest." Keep on blogging dude!

My money says twenty years from now you'll still ocassionally run into some cached version of it... I canclelled my AOL account close to 10 years ago and my old webpage, the first I ever made, is still live and cached all over. It's sometimes frustrating but mostly awe-inspiring.
