FundingChina.com

So we decided to launch our first FundingUniverse.com
international web site, and thought we would start with China, since
there seems to be a little economic activity going on over there these
days. 🙂

FundingChina.com is in
English for now, and it will be a matching service for entrepreneurs
with ideas and angel or VC investors who want to get involved in the
Chinese market. Later, hopefully, we’ll offer Chinese language versions
(although I hear there are over one hundred dialects.)

About the chinese dialects: you most probably won’t have to worry about them. I don’t know the language (unfortunately), but I have read and heard a bit about it: there are huge differences in the spoken form, but the written language was unified (by force) during the 3rd century. It did not change until 1950s, when simplified characters were introduced.

So I believe it would be enough to provide two versions of the web site: simplified and traditional.

  2. Written language is the same throughout China and Taiwan. Cantonese spoken in Hong Kong has about 300+ more characters, but like the previous user said, two versions of the site will be fine. Simplified Chinese for the mainland and Traditional for Taiwan and Hong Kong. Paul, let me know if you need some help.

What are your plans for Japan? 2nd largest economy, over 1 million millionaires, 0.0001% bank interest rates etc etc… Would have been a much better start than China (having said that Canada and the UK would have been better still, speaking (almost) the same language as they do, eh.)

btw, your sites MUST be localized if you want to gain “traction and trajectory” in international markets.

How about one for India. Even though we have 20+ languages, English is accepted as the business language.

Also any plans for expanding the scope of funding
universe. Please see my posting on what I would like funding universe to provide.
